Even in the fast-moving Internet industry in the fast-growing Chinese economy, Xie Wen was in and out of Yahoo! China pretty fast: he resigned Tuesday for “personal reasons” after just one month on the job.
Xie will remain as a consultant to Alibaba, the parent of Yahoo! China. The American Yahoo! (nasdaq: YHOO - news - people ) owns 40% of Alibaba.
Jack Ma, founder and chief executive of Alibaba, praised Xie in a statement for his “unique and forward-looking understanding of China’s internet development.”
“Even though his time with Yahoo China did not last long, we were all impressed by his passion and his integrity,” Ma stated.
Xie was replaced by a senior vice president from Alibaba, Zeng Ming, formerly a corporate management professor. At the time when Xie joined on Oct. 17th, he was replacing Tian Jian as president of Yahoo China when Tian left to be a vice president of Alilbaba’s mergers and acquisitions business.
Yahoo China has been struggling to find direction amid intense competition from a wide array of domestic Internet-based companies, including Baidu.com and Sina.com.
