By Mac William Bishop in Taipei and agencies Wednesday, February 07, 2007 Chi Mei Optoelectronics, one of Taiwan's leading liquid-crystal display panel manufacturers, yesterday said its quarterly year-on-year profit fell sharply but that prices for flat screen panels were bottoming out.
Taiwan's second-largest maker of LCD panels said net profit for the fourth quarter was T$436m ($13.2m), dwarfed by the T$8.34bn made in the same period for 2005, as lower demand for flat panel screens and falling prices continued to weigh on the sector. But the group returned to profit on a quarter-on-quarter basis after a difficult third quarter that saw it post a loss of T$1.41bn.
